Guides: what to know before your recording
Four texts we send to clients before their first session. Each belongs to one service and ends with a checklist or a table.
The guides answer the questions that come up in almost every enquiry: what do I need to bring, what does an EP really cost, in which format do I get my files, and who owns the recording in the end? We write them from daily practice on Burggasse, with the prices and rules that also appear in our terms.
Each guide is tied to one service: Preparing your session belongs to vocal recording, Planning a recording budget to band recording, File formats and delivery to mixing and Rights to your master to mastering. For podcast and voice recordings the notes on preparation and formats apply accordingly.
The guides
PreparationPreparing your session: a checklist for singers and bands
Preparation is the cheapest line in any recording budget. Arrive in Burggasse with finished arrangements, fresh strings and a clear running order, and every booked hour goes into takes rather than into hunting for a key.
BudgetPlanning a recording budget: what an EP really costs in Vienna
A five-track EP is the project we see most often. Here we work through it line by line: which costs arise, what they come to in Vienna and where you can trim the bill without trimming the sound.
FormatsFile formats and delivery: from multitrack to finished master
From the first export to the DDP image: which sample rate, bit depth and naming we need so that your multitrack session can go into the mix, and from there into mastering, without a single query.
RightsRights to your master: who owns the recording after the session?
A finished recording carries several rights at once: in the work, in the performance and in the phonogram. This guide explains those layers in plain words, says what Klangnest keeps and what it does not, and lists what to settle before release. It is not a substitute for legal advice.
